Since its formation in 2012, the Amelio Trio excites audiences with its highly expressive and dynamic playing.
„Although all three showed their own distinctive personalities, their vividly wide-awake ensemble playing made for an electrifying interpretation that commanded the audience’s attention for every single second.“ (Süddeutsche Zeitung)
In the last two years, the young ensemble has won prizes at multiple national and international competitions, including second prize at the prestigious ARD International Music Competition 2023 in Munich, the „Prize of the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb“ 2024 as well as first prize at the International Schumann Chamber Music Prize Frankfurt in 2022.
In addition, the trio is a prize winner at competitions such as the Gianni Bergamo Chamber Music Competition in Lugano.
Violinist Johanna Schubert, cellist Merle Geißler and pianist Philipp Kirchner came together in Frankfurt am Main and have since given numerous concerts throughout Europe at venues and festivals such as the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Prinzregententheater Munich, the Beethoven-Haus Bonn and at the Piano Trio Fest Bern. In addition to the classical and romantic repertoire for piano trio, the Amelio Trio has a great passion for contemporary music, to which all three members have a strong connection. As a group they feel united in their curious searches for multi-faceted sounds, expressions, and their deeply personal interpretations.
A debut CD of the Trio will be released in collaboration with the label GENUIN as part of its Edition Primavera.
The ensemble members are generously supported by scholarships from foundations including the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, the German Academic Scholarship Foundation and the Cusanuswerk. Johanna and Merle perform on fine instruments by Lorenzo Storioni (Cremona 1779) and Georges Chanot (Paris 1840) from the Deutsche Musikinstrumentenfonds.
After many years under the tutelage of Angelika Merkle, the Trio is currently receiving tuition from Oliver Wille (Kuss Quartet) as well as from Stefan Heinemeyer (ATOS Trio) and Markus Becker at HMTM Hannover since 2019. They have received further important artistic inputs from musicians including Eberhard Feltz, Steven Isserlis and the Fauré Quartett.
The Amelio Trio is in residence at ProQuartet - Centre Européen de Musique de Chambre for the season 2023-2024.
