Merle Geißler, born in 1999 in Bad Soden, is a German cellist and co-founder of the Amelio Trio.
She is a prizewinner of numerous national and international competitions, including the ARD International Music Competition Munich, the “Deutscher Musikwettbewerb”, the International Schumann Chamber Music Prize Frankfurt, and the Gianni Bergamo International Chamber Music Competition in Lugano.
In addition to her chamber music activities Merle performs regularly as a soloist with various orchestras. Alongside performances of major works of the classical and romantic periods, she dedicates herself to the interpretation of contemporary music.
In 2014 Merle was the recipient of a yearlong scholarship for the ‘specialist musician’ education programme at the Wells Cathedral school in England, after which she became a student of Prof. Susanne Müller-Hornbach in Frankfurt and Prof. Thomas Carroll in Cologne, where she completed her Bachelor’s degree with highest marks. Currently she studies in the class of Prof. Troels Svane at the Musikhochschule Lübeck. She has received important artistic inputs from Steven Isserlis and Peter Bruns, as well as from members of the Artemis Quartet and Fauré Quartet.
She works regularly with orchestras including the Bonn Opera Orchestra and is kindly sponsored by the Cusanuswerk as well as the Live Music Now e.V. Foundation.
Merle is a scholarship holder of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben and performs on a fine cello by Georges Chanot, Paris 1840, from the Deutsche Musikinstrumentenfonds.
